Dear Everyone Involved in the Academy Nomination Process for Best Animated Feature…
On November 4th, I purchased a ticket for the viewing of the theatrical release of Chainsaw Man: Reze Arc, at an undisclosed theater whose location is not relevant to my complaint. After about one hundred minutes of run time, I left feeling thoroughly satisfied and thinking to myself that this would certainly at least achieve a nomination at the oh-so-prestigious Academy Awards.
Consider the phenomenal animation by MAPPA, the scrumptious smear and impact frames, cascades of bloody devil-hunting action, and the setup for the rest of Denji’s (the main character) arc. Not to mention the synergy between themes of how manipulation and trauma influence romance and the overall playful cynical tone that Fujimoto so effortlessly injected into this masterclass of a film.
Unfortunately, it seems that the Oscars Nomination Board confused their facts and placed the wrong title for Best Animated Feature. Instead, your board selected K-Pop Demon Hunters as the nomination over Chainsaw Man and Demon Slayer. I had expected professional movie-watchers to carry the capacity to distinguish a tragic masterclass from One Direction with glorified katana lightsabers. This was not what I had in mind for the nomination. Nor what several thousands of other people on the esteemed forum platform, ‘Reddit,’ had in mind.
To resolve this issue, I would like to propose that you remove the Netflix industry plant and, in its place, nominate Chainsaw Man for Best Animated Feature. That would make me, and the thousands of Redditors that I have bonded with, quite happy. Also, I would like a free DVD special edition of the film and a thirty-dollar Regal popcorn bucket that I did not bother to purchase at my first viewing. It is clear this was an unintentional misrepresentation of the animation industry, and I am willing to resolve this novice transgression for the above restitution.
I am very eagerly waiting for your reply, dearest Oscars Nomination Board for Best Animated Feature. I will wait until the day before the ceremony on March 14 before I contact the appropriate law agency for resolving poor taste in cinematography, animation, and clearly anything else required for making a film that is greater than subpar.
Please contact me through the ‘airwaves,’ and notify everybody on national television of your snubbing of cinema gold.
Sincerely,
Adrian T. Gonzalez-Torres
Enclosed below are files showing the fact that Chainsaw Man grossed over $174 million worldwide, and K-Pop Demon Hunters wriggled to $24 million in gross revenue. Also, a file specifying that K-Pop Demon Hunters was not even a theatrical release to begin with.
