Amidst the success of her first tour in five years, the Era’s tour, Taylor Swift has dropped an acoustic version of her song “Lavender Haze” from her latest album “Midnights” on March 31. Since Swift’s other single “Anti-Hero” received an excessive number of remixes, fans could have predicted the same treatment for “Lavender Haze” and the eventual arrival of an acoustic version. Listeners are in for a new experience with this rendition!

While it may fail to wow when compared to Swift’s older acoustic releases like “State of Grace” or “Haunted,” “Lavender Haze” stands out as having the most unique use of background instrumentals. The main criticism of Swift’s original go with this song was the experimental production. If you had that same idea, this edition can be seen as a redemption. A mix of melodic guitar, softer vocals, and less voice effects, it achieves the relaxing goal of acoustic covers. “Lavender Haze” has risen to fit the in the cloud, dream-pop feeling that Swift’s team advertised.

On the other hand, the dark sound featured can feel off-putting. The guitar usage gives the feeling that the song lacks cohesion as if the vocals and background were two separate projects before being put together. For a popular artist who handles such a large amount of music productions, I wish some more thought and effort would go into Swift’s remixes.

Overall, I enjoyed “Lavender Haze” in its acoustic form but will most likely stick to the original version. The song can cater to both existing Swifties and general pop fans. So, if you are a fan of songs about being in love and facing the societal expectations that comes with it, check out “Lavender Haze” in its original, acoustic, or other remixed form to see which best fits your liking!
