New and Versatile: 55 Sunset Coffee & Spirits

Located within walking distance of IHS is Issaquah’s newest edition to the restaurant scene: 55. Coffeeshop by day and spirits bar by night, 55 offers a various and sundry menu, and promptly opens for breakfast and coffee runs at 6:00 a.m. on weekdays, 7:00 a.m. on Saturdays, and 8:00 a.m. on Sundays. Closing times range from 8:00 p.m. Monday through Wednesday, 9:00 p.m. Thursday through Saturday, and 4:00 p.m. on Sundays.

The spot is Washington-proud, with a “Northwest Morning Favorites” section on the menu, displaying a rotating selection of scones, muffins, egg bites, and other classic morning eats at affordable prices. Also available are options for lunch and dinner: salads, flat bread pizzas, and sandwiches. I tried the ham sandwich, featuring Swiss cheese and pesto. It was served warm and did not disappoint.

The charming bakery case holds familiar sweets, such as lemon loaves, fruit strudels, and chocolate chip cookies made for sharing. An extensive drink menu serves every variation of lattes, cappuccinos, macchiatos, blended coffees, cold brew, and mochas, with inclusive milk substitutes and an array of flavors. 55’s delicious take on the iced oat milk latte came out directly after ordering. If you are not coffee’s biggest fan, you can opt for alternative drinks like teas, Italian sodas (with or without Redbull), smoothies, and hot chocolate.

Above all else, 55 is accommodating. Upon walking in, the presence of community is palpable. Friends are seen catching up at barstools as sun pours in through the windows, while others work with coffee in hand. There is a conference room towards the back, booths, and a couch area.

Whether it is a spontaneous craving or an early morning caffeine venture, 55 has you covered. Without doubt a worthy addition to downtown Issaquah. Support your local coffeehouse!
