“That’s Hilarious” by Charlie Puth: Short and Sweet

Maya Colchamiro, Staff Writer

Charlie Puth has managed to create an extremely popular and catchy album all in five minutes and 32 seconds. The album is a fan favorite, and although it only contains two songs, the captivating
lyrics flow well with the appealing beat. Personally, I would choose the song “Light Switch” over “That’s Hilarious” because I prefer the lyrics throughout the song.

This being said, both songs are incredibly well crafted, and Puth’s artistry shines through. The genre of pop is often classified as “mindless” or “dumb,” but many pop artists are exceptionally
talented, as well as underrated. Puth’s music helps break this stereotype, as the melody and lyricism can be enjoyed by pop music fans and haters alike.

Any listener can observe how much work went into producing this album. Puth combines complexity and simple elements of music to create a flawless album, which many listeners crave more
of. This style is nowhere near new for Puth, and his reputation as a pop singer is continuing to grow. “Light Switch” had previously been released as a single, and the song began to become widely known.

Puth had shared a short clip of the song to his Tiktok profile all the way back in September 2021, and said he would release the song early if it got 500,000 pre-saves. The song did not reach this large goal, so the single was released on January 20, 2022, and the full album was released on April 8, 2022. I would go as far as to say that this album was worth the seven month wait.

Although many people think that Puth should have released the album earlier, it is often forgot that music is a form of art, which should not be rushed. I feel as if the album was tirelessly worked on, but this hard-work produced an incredible result.
