Drake’s Powerful Musical Reentrance

Remi Ragland, Staff Writer

International rap star Drake made a strong comeback with the release of his 6th studio album, “Certified Lover Boy.” His most recent album was released last year, and ever since, fans have been anxiously awaiting new songs. “Certified Lover Boy” includes 21 new tracks with surprising features from Travis Scott, JAY-Z, Future, Kid Cudi, 21 Savage, and many more. Every song includes Drake’s traditional R&B/rap style and the features add exciting and unique elements.

Songs such as Way 2 Sexy, Girls Want Girls, and TSU are already climbing up the charts and are being featured on social media, sparking trends on platforms like Tik Tok. These songs are fast-paced and catchy, sometimes repetitive, but overall, well-produced songs that easily get stuck in fans’ heads. Along with these fun anthems, the album includes calm and easy-flowing songs such as In the Bible and Pipe Down with lyrics about navigating difficult relationships or personal issues. These songs have smooth melodies with deep bass, perfectly capturing an R&B side with strong and potentially relatable lyrics. On the other hand, Drake continues to show his pure rap talent in songs such as Champagne Poetry and 7am on Bridle Path. This album has a perfect mix of all of Drake’s best styles and variations.

Drake received slight competition with the earlier release of Kanye West’s Donda, but Certified Lover Boy perfectly displays Drake’s ability to remain on top and shine through despite the success of his fellow rappers. In fact, an article by Hypebeast states, “CLB racked up over 430 million audio streams in the U.S. in the three days after its release, September 3 through 5, beating out the 423 million streams that DONDA garnered in its first eight days of being available.” Drake is continuing his legacy, after five other successful albums. Although Drake’s original style and songs remain some of his best work, he continues to create relevant music that today’s audience will enjoy, while also maintaining his beloved sound and creations. Certified Lover Boy is a well-rounded and solid album, offering songs for any mood and situation, leaving fans wanting to hear even more.
