Wake Up from Everyday Life!

Wake Up from Everyday Life!

A reoccurring theme from Hazel English’s newest album, “Wake UP!”, is to think positive thoughts so that you can achieve peace of mind. She could not make the theme of the record more obvious: lyrics such as “Be present, seize the day, and stop sleepwalking through life,” convey that she is focused on positive messaging to help move on from a past relationship. Throughout the album, English combines a dreamy poetic style with touches of 1960s pop, giving her a unique style that leaves you wanting more. My favorite song of hers, “Combat,” started out slow with a rhythmic snare drum that transitions into a slow melody reminiscent of Hawaiian beach music. The comforting opening tune relaxed my mind as I drifted into daydreams of the vacations I took with my family to Maui. I recommend English’s new album to anyone who just experienced a tough obstacle in life whether it is a break up or divorce and needs a spark of positivity in their life. After listening to her new album, I can say with certainty that I am ready to tackle the passiveness of life with a positive mindset. The critical reception of English’s album was fairly positive; Metacritic gave it a 75/100, which indicates generally favorable reviews.
