On Sunday, Feb. 23, Macy’s flagship store in downtown Seattle officially closed its doors, leaving behind an era of shopping experiences. Macy’s had their store on 300 Pine Street open for more than 90 years, and its closing marks a new age of shopping. The closing was made public months prior in the fall, as rising prices in the downtown area are continuously pushing businesses out of the area. The Macy’s building was shared with the global enterprise, Amazon, and it is speculated that Amazon will take over the three stories that Macy’s encompassed as the success of online shopping only seems to grow. While Macy’s the company is still alive and well as a hallmark of American fashion culture, it will no longer be leaving its mark in Seattle.
