In a double header on Thursday, Issaquah came out on top defeating Eastlake 50-18 and 52-16 against Skyline with the help of from two great performances from sophomore Brady Malone and senior Carson Tanner.

During the start of the match, junior Victor Marcenac competed against the captain of the Skyline captain. Stalling for the first two periods, Marcenac was betting on waiting for his opponent to tire before getting him into a lucky cradle. Unfortunately, Marcenac came up short and was defeated in 6-2 loss to the opposing captain. Junior Richard Martin followed up with victory against his first opponent and Issaquah followed up the first round with a string of victories from Malone and junior Alex Witecki. Witecki stalled his opponent for the early period before hitting a solid pin on his opponent to end the round.

Meanwhile a highly anticipated matchup was the round between junior Declan Tracy and a student from Eastlake he had wrestled last year. Unfortunately, Tracy had a bit of an off day and struggled to pin his opponent, and ended up losing the close match. Tanner also had an impressive performance, easily handling his opponent in a 5 – 3 win.

Coach Kurt Hyatt told the team before the double header that the most important thing was for “everyone to do their jobs. It doesn’t matter if your job is to get a pin or avoid a pin, the most important thing is for you to do your job.” Overall, Marcenac said that “It was a good start to the season. We crushed Eastlake and Skyline, although our Skyline win won’t count in the overall standings.” Martin also agreed with Marcenac’s evaluation of the match, commenting that “a lot of the freshman and sophomores looked really good today.”
