The State of Mental Health

The Seattle – Tacoma area has the second highest suicide rate out of the largest metropolitan areas in America, with suicide being the second leading cause of death in youth ages 10 – 24. While Washington has gone from 47th in the nation to 34th in terms of state mental health care systems, the movement towards mental health reform has only taken its first steps. Communication is essential towards ending the stigma around the topic and finding a solution, but youth input may be arguably more important. The lives of the youth will always be more than just a statistic, and we will not let it be.
