The Issaquah Girls’ Swim and Dive Team capped off the final regular season meet of the season with a dominant 124-57 win over Sammamish. This meet was also Sammamish’s senior night. During a 10-minute break around halfway through, they brought out all their seniors and celebrated their times with the team.

The meet started with both dive teams taking stage. Issaquah had six girls perform over six rounds, and Sammamish had three divers perform over those six rounds. Both teams performed well, with a series of well executed back dives and flips.

One of the most impressive events of the night was the 500 yard freestyle, swum by Katie Ueda, Kira Grebinsky, Keana Hunter, and Sky Pushckor. This involved swimming twenty laps, which made this event last around 5 ½ minutes. Kira Grebinsky placed first with a time of 5:23:04, and Katie Ueda placed second with a time of 5:26:49.

When asked about the result, coach Laura Halter said that “the girls swam very well today. We expected a win, and that is what we got. We had a good lineup coming into the meet today.” Senior Lauren Reising stated, “I think everyone swam their hardest and had fun doing it, and that is really what matters the most.”

Next week will be the team’s District Qualifiers, where many on the team will be taking part, in hopes of earning a state birth. Senior Alex Tangas says that they’re preparing for postseason by “working really hard to maintain our best times and be in the best condition for the next few meets.” She also said that, in regards to the sport as a whole, “although a lot of people look at swimming as more of an individual sport, I think everyone is super excited out there and just do the best that they can, not just for themselves but for the team as a whole.”

This was the seniors last ever meet, and a couple of them had some things to reflect on. Lauren Reising said, “I will miss the friendships made the most, and the whole team experience.”Alex Tangas explains that the team means “more to me than I can even describe, I’ve made so many friends over the past four years and I’m really going to miss them, having practices, and dual meets like these to look forward to.”

Issaquah capped off the regular season finishing 6-2, good for fourth in KingCo, out of seventeen teams. They have a high expectation going into State, and a strong senior class leading the way.
