Yesterday, Girls’ Soccer beat Eastlake High School by a score of 3-1. Our Eagles entered the game with an undefeated record of 7-0 in league play and 8-1-1 overall, good for first place in KingCo. The visiting Eastlake Wolfpack entered the game at 4-2-1 and third place in KingCo. “Our mentality coming into the game is that we knew Eastlake was going to be close to our biggest competition in the league, so we knew we had to play a good full 80 minutes,” said Coach Jaci Belur. The game started off fairly slow, with both teams trading the ball for a good majority of the first half. Things heated up as the clock hit the two-minute mark of the first half as senior Lea Tucker put Issaquah ahead, which was shortly followed by an Eastlake score, tying the game at one a piece going into halftime. “It was pretty much a 0-0 game at half, so we did our best to put the first half behind and play our best,” said senior Brecklyn Beighle. In the second half, Issaquah was able to pull away, scoring twice and winning the game 3-1. The first goal came from senior Sarah Kim, and the second came from senior Sophia Cuschieri. Cuschieri’s goal was one like no other, a backwards behind the back kick that elegantly found its way into the net. When asked on her breakdown of the play, Cuschieri said, “Kelsey played a great ball into the box and it was an easy finish.” “One of the sickest goals I have ever seen… I was blown away,” said Coach Belur. With this win, our Eagles have secured first place in KingCo! Congrats to our Girls’ Varsity Soccer Team!
