As the Issaquah High School Fastpitch Team enters the second half of the
season, they strive to continue being ranked second in the state. The girls start off the
season going 10-1 and highly ranked, while competing at their best.
In the first week of the season, the Eagles battled with some weather and had
game adjustments due to field conditions and scheduling. The Eagles took on Liberty at
home on March 17th and took home the first win of the season 9-3, The next day the
Eagles took on Everett at home showing off their offense and winning 12-2. Just three
days later, the Eagles had their first away game of the season against the Bothell
Cougars. In past seasons, Issaquah and Bothell had interesting matchups, but this year
the Eagles took home the win 20-3 showing off their bats. Going into week two as a 3-0
team, the team showed their confidence against Skyline Spartans and again took home
the win 16-2. After week one, the Eagles were ranked in first place in Washington state
for 4A fastpitch.
Although the team faced more weather issues the next week, the Eagles had
some games rescheduled into the next week, creating a busy week. On Monday, March
31st, the Eagles faced Juanita, Wednesday they would take on Lake Washington, then
Thursday against Redmond, and finally on Friday against Eastlake. The team battled all
week to come out on top vs Juanita 9-6, and Lake Washington 7-6, but battled hard

the game and ended up losing in the 6th inning allowing Redmond to take Issaquah’s
first loss of the season. Putting the loss behind them, and taking down Eastlake 10-5
the next day, making for a busy week. Four games for the week was not the end, the
Eagles had a 7:30am bus on Saturday departing to Eastmont, Wenatchee. In the warm,
sunny eastern Washington weather, and on dirt fields, the team played a double header
against Eastmont’s Wildcats and took two wins home with them. During the battles
against Eastmont, Eagles Sadie Huryn and Taylor Chan both hit their first career
homeruns which helped lead the Eagles to 9-5 and 11-3 wins over the Wildcats. They
ended the busy week with a record of 9-1 and a ranking of number 2 in Washington
state.
Since the team played six games in the span of the past week, this led to overall
soreness, and less energy. They enter the second half of the season where they meet
liberty again away this time, allowing the Eagles to show their improvement and winning
15-0 in 5 innings, and getting the opportunity to celebrate with senior, Sadie Huryn who
collected her 100th career hit during the game against Liberty, where the team
celebrated this achievement altogether, as her 100th hit was also her second ever
career homerun. Huryn is approaching 100 career runs, and the team is waiting to
celebrate Huryn’s next milestone.
As the team enters the second half of the season, they remain ranked in second
place and are confident to continue through the season. The Eagles continue to practice
with intensity and improve every day and have big goals of playing in the state
tournament in the post season. Even though they only made it to districts last season,
the Eagles have bigger goals this season. The Eagles have so much potential this
first loss of the season. Putting the loss behind them, and taking down Eastlake 10-5
the next day, making for a busy week. Four games for the week was not the end, the
