Disney is proud to present its most recent movie, Moana 2. The movie is an adventure-packed fantastical with a surprising yet satisfying ending that leaves viewers with smiles on their faces. With new songs, characters, and adventures, Moana 2 is a big hit!

Moana 2 has been a great hit in theatres, surprisingly predicted to surpass the original in success. According to The Oberlin Review, “The sequel has now broken records such as the highest global opening weekend for an animated movie. With $439.7 million made against a $150 million budget, the film is projected to make more money than its predecessor.” However, many critics believe that the movie, while entertaining, was mediocre at best. The storyline has been described as “rushed” and “flawed.” Although I do agree that it was fast paced, I believe this was only in the interest of the viewers. If the storyline had been appropriately extended, the movie would have been three hours long.

Moana 2 also has what I would call unnecessary side characters, but despite their general irrelevance to the plot, I believe the characters were entertaining and enjoyable. For example, Kele, a grumpy, elderly plant-expert that was unwillingly and unenthusiastically dragged into Moana’s adventures, adds humor to the story with his witty and sarcastic personality. Additionally, Simea, Moana’s lovable younger sister, while overall absent throughout the film, was an adorable addition to the story.

The story takes place on the island of Motunui, Moana’s home. In the beginning of the film, Moana is given the title of Tautai, or worthy navigator. Soon after, a troublesome calling from her preceding Tautai ancestor tasks her with the adventure of locating and rescuing the island of Motufetu from a dark curse. In doing so, Moana will reunite the people of the ocean.

Despite its many flaws, I believe Moana 2 was a wholesome and heartwarming addition to the Disney collection. It is a perfect family-friendly movie to enjoy on a Friday night with some popcorn. I would definitely recommend watching Moana 2 with family and friends.
