As the leaves begin to turn to a golden orange, Washingtonians know that it is the start of fall. With many items and activities related to each season, IHS students begin to start their fall season off strong with many traditions. Whether you are spending these holidays with family or friends, you can expand your knowledge on the fun locations and attractions near Issaquah.
Fall is a time for popular limited-time drinks, comfort food, and candy. With Halloween coming up, candy will be a very common sight even in the following weeks. Besides candy, signature drinks are also popular during the fall. According to In Search of Yummy-ness, some top fall drinks are hot chocolate, pumpkin flavored drinks (like pumpkin spice lattes), apple cider, and tea. Sophomore Logan Armstrong says that although it is more of a winter drink, his favorite fall drink is the Sprite Cranberry. Sophomore Sofia Bruestle added, “My favorite fall drink is, it is going to sound very basic, but a pumpkin spice latte. It is really good, and it slaps with apple pie.” Besides the comforting fall drinks, there are also many seasonal foods like pumpkin pie that are wildly popular. According to Food Network, many of their highly recommended fall dishes include pasta dishes like butternut squash alfredo pasta or meals that are a blend of meat and vegetables like carrot-ginger soup with roasted vegetables or Quick Rotisserie Chicken Pot Pies. Although the previous dishes sound fancy and delicious, there is nothing wrong with sticking with classic fall dishes like a stuffed turkey (especially for holidays like Thanksgiving).
Fall offers many different activities and traditions like corn mazes, pumpkin carving, reading, arts and crafts, spending quality family time, and sports. According to Real Simple, there are plenty of outside activities to do in the fall like apple picking, camping, playing sports, and hiking. Some indoor activities mentioned were finding things to donate, baking, watching Halloween movies, resting by the fireplace, and doing crafts like knitting. Armstrong adds, “Sometimes we do corn mazes” and that he enjoys fall sports like football and lacrosse. Besides these activities, fall encourages people to spend time with loved ones like Thanksgiving encourages family gatherings. Bruestle explains, “I have a fall tradition of going trick-or-treating or having like a party with my friends.” Even though everyone has different methods for having social celebrations, one thing stays the same, and that is the joy of being able to be with people they care about.
One of the most well-known fall attractions is pumpkin patches. Some students like sophomore Nicole Morgan enjoy visiting the same pumpkin patch as a family tradition. Having the same experience each year and bonding with family is part of the appeal of this holiday season. While other students like senior Hazel Terry try to find a new pumpkin patch every year to celebrate at. One specific pumpkin patch known to IHS students is Remlinger Farms, Remlinger has a wide variety of pumpkins, apple ciders, amusement rides, and a fall themed gift shop with homemade trinkets and produce. As we continue the countdown to Halloween, many students enjoy kicking off their spooky season by visiting haunted houses. A common attraction is the Georgetown Morgue Haunted House. To find a list of which haunted houses are closest to your home, go to WAhauntedhouse, a website dedicated to all the haunted and creepy places and sights in Washington.
The transition from the spooky season into the winter season comes quick, so soak up all the fall themed activates while you can. Use this season to explore new traditions with your friends and family. And have an amazing spooky season, Eagles.
