On September 27th, Issaquah hosted the 2024 homecoming game against the Highline Pirates. The Issaquah Eagles continue their football season with another win. With an intense game and fierce competition, Issaquah brought home another victory and kicked off the homecoming weekend on a high.
The first quarter was up to a tense start when Highline fumbled the ball at 11:32 in the first quarter giving Issaquah an early advantage. Senior DL Jason Swanson blocked a fast pass and a near touchdown from Highline. The first quarter was slow due to multiple timeouts because of small injuries and penalties, but during this time Issaquah was gearing up to take down the Pirates in the second quarter. After a slow game, Issaquah scored a touchdown with only 3:54 before the halftime show. Highline almost evened out the score with a touchdown, but the ball was intercepted by junior Chase Hudson.
When the homecoming halftime show finished, the intense game continued. An impressive play was made by Junior Austin Schildt when he ran 60 yards while attempting to make a touchdown, however he tripped and fell short of the 20-yard line. The score was now 13-6 with Issaquah in the lead. With one minute left in the third quarter, Swanson received an injury that caused fear throughout the student section.
In the last quarter, Issaquah was still in the lead but the chances of Highline catching up were still high. Highline missed a touchdown and the score was 19-14, with Issaquah in the lead. As the clock continued counting down, Highline received a
touchdown and was in the lead. Incredible plays were made by Issaquah with less than a minute left and the Eagles worked together to win the homecoming game. The game finished with a score of 27-21.
