On April 17, the Issaquah High school boys track swooped in for a win against Eastlake. With almost full stands, people cheered and exclaimed in excitement for all the runners participating in the races. Other runners walk by smiling and high fiving each other as they get ready and finish their events. The sun is shining, and it is another beautiful day for all the track events that lie ahead for the boys. Even chatter was going around that this was the meet that all of boys were really trying their hardest to break their own personal bests for other invites yet to come with minimum times.
The meet started with Eastlake winning but as the meet went on Eagles morale was slowly rising causing them to score more points for the win. Issaquah runner Toren Garcia snuck into the sea of Eastlake runners with a nice first place in the 200 meters dash scoring some big points for Issaquah! As the events swiftly move by with much excitement in the air the eagles get to the 1600 meters event. Issaquah wipes the top of the board with the top five being our own Issy boys track team runners. Sophomore Nathaniel Laursen says, “I was a little nervous because I was trying to break my PR in the 1600 meters”
Watching the runners pass the finish line every time provides such joy. As they are done running, they all give each other big smiles and high fives as they congratulate one another. Everyone on the team is so friendly to each other and it shows wherever they are on or off the track with each other. Laursen adds, “I’ve noticed that this year, the team has created stronger bonds with each other, even though other people on the team are doing different events. I’m seeing more distance runners become friends with throwers, who become friends with sprinter and jumpers, and vice versa.” Other events continue the field such as discus, javelin, and long jump with Issaquah winning all three! More events flooded with all the top places being Issaquah athletes.
All Issaquah athletes are training so hard this season and giving it their all-personal records and season records appear all over the results this season and giving it their all. Junior Jack Roberts adds, “Overall times have improved across the entire team, and I think people have gotten better in taking interest in watching events that they don’t do, like sprinters watching long distance or jumpers watching pole vaults etc.” New personal bests follow every high placement which is an achievement anyone can celebrate. The Issaquah boys track team has a bond that no one can rock as they are committed to their running and ready to reach and run new heights. Congratulations yet again Issaquah for yet another win on our home field track. Like coach Cobb says, “Eagles heads up, Fly! Eagles! Fly!”
