The JV Issaquah Eagles beat down the Eastlake Wolves 8-4, bringing IHS to an impressive 11-3 season. This match saw constant pressure and the Wolves shut down by Issaquah thorough teamwork. Issaquah had easy at bats, while the Wolves struggled to take one or two bases. Players of note included junior Ethan Trenary and sophomore Evan Doan, who hit a double and triple respectively and both scored.
Freshman Seika Saito said, “This is looking to be a great game.” He hit a single and a double during the game. Home base was stolen three times throughout the game as the pitchers struggled against experienced runners. It was a clean game with no injuries and no fouls for either team.
It was an exciting game with a slow start. The match was a home game for Issaquah, so the Wolves started at bat. A quiet top of the first inning was followed by a bang as the Eagles stepped up to bat. A single from Saito was quickly followed by a bunt to the pitcher from junior Garrett Sourwine, allowing Saito to get to steal second and then third. Sophomore Nathan McBride shot in behind with speed and got out before he could make it to first base, still allowing Saito to score. Sophomore Griffin Neel then got to first before being propelled to home base by Trenary who rattled off a quick trip before scoring himself by leaping off a single hit from junior Christian Cotton. Junior Ian Naponelli stepped up and got out bringing the end of the first inning.
The second impressive inning came during the second half of the third inning. With Issaquah on the plate. Sourwine came up to bat and started the bottom of the third with an easy single. McBride tried and failed to show him up by hitting an easy bunt straight to the first basemen, getting him out. Sourwine took advantage of the blunder and then stole straight to second and then even third base. Neel had a short walk to first base, where he then slid into second and then third, pushing Sourwine to home base for a point. Trenary, still confident from his triple, stepped up with a swagger that he lost when he struck out. No. 10 swept in with a decadent triple that slammed Neel straight back home. Before Doan could finish and score another easy point, Naponelli hits a ball straight into the air for an easy catch and third out.
The next game is at Issaquah against Woodinville at 4:00 p.m on April 24.
