Chuck Strangers has never truly been in the spotlight, but with his new album, “A Forsaken Lover’s Plea,” released on March 15, 2024, he deserves to no longer be a stranger. I truly believe that the 17 song, 34-minute-long album showcases that Chuck Strangers has a lot of potential in the future to become a greater rapper and lyricist.
Strangers’ album tackles the many different struggles of growing up and trying to “make it out” using music as his method. With this, the rapper expresses the hard experiences and worries he must live with, stating in the fifth song “Too Afraid to Dance,” that “God laugh, minor leave bags, bad contracts/ What you expect from a walk on, which block will you be outlining chalk on.” With the threat of being dead always looming over him, he rightfully titles the album as he sees himself as forsaken. This message not only serves as an expression of his struggles in life but also a message for everyone struggling with his shared experiences, becoming an anthem for those who can relate.
With such a deep and strong message, Chuck is also not afraid to challenge the status quo, making sure to use his platform to spread his beliefs and his advice. Especially in his song “Sermonette,” where he raps, “They tell you /Run towards the white light/ but they didn’t say what happens after/ when you done/ you gone for dolo/ know to focus on yourself.” Running towards the light, signifying death, is not just a simple message saying to accept death, but instead to challenge the way people are living, as the way they live is like running towards death. Instead, the best thing to do is ignore the outside world that is making you give up your life and instead focus on your own life.
With such strong messages Strangers uses, he truly deserves to be heard by anyone willing to listen. His music could change the way you think about the way you live your life, or maybe the way you live it.
