The Issaquah C-Team played a heated game against Mount Si on Jan. 28. Before the game, Issaquah and Mount Si both had eight wins this season, however Mount Si is now in the lead because of their win against Issaquah. Issaquah freshman player Jack Kodosky states, “We do not have any specific goals this season.”
The first quarter was very even and only consisted of one foul to number 14 from Mount Si, Kayden Adams. When interviewed during halftime, Issaquah Assistant Coach, David Whitfield mentions Mount Si number 14 sayin g, “This is a tough team and when we played them last time we won by one point, and obviously number 14 is killing us.” In the second quarter, it was a much more physical game with four fouls from Issaquah and three from Mount Si. During the second quarter there was an injury from Mount Si causing a slight delay in the game. The score at half time was a close 24-27, with Mount Si in the lead.
Things got heated during the second half. There was one foul from Issaquah eight seconds into the third quarter. This sparked tension and the ref and photographer got into an argument, which resulted in the Mount Si coach yelling, “Fight your super ego.” Issaquah scored their first basket of the third quarter with 1:51 remaining in the third quarter. Issaquah player freshman Josh Van Assche tied the third quarter score with 11 seconds. The score was now 31-31.
The fourth quarter was tense with both teams making many challenging baskets . At 4:41 Mount Si scored a three-pointer, but Issaquah retaliated by stealing the ball and getting a basket. With 3:24 left, Mount Si had four fouls and scored another three-pointer. Mount Si was up to 50 while Issaquah was at 36. The Mount Si coach yelled at his team to slow down. The players then used up the shot clock and got a three-point basket causing the tension to rise. With only 55 seconds left in the game Issaquah got to 40 points, however with only 20 seconds left in the game, Mount Si another three-point shot, finishing the game 40-59.
This is not the end of the Issaquah C-team’s season. Issaquah has one more game left for this season against North Creek on Feb 3. Issaquah player freshman Chris Brown says, “We work on the basics a lot.” With only one game left, Coach Whitfield shares how the team has been preparing: “We focus on fundamentals and do tons of drills to make sure their footwork is right.” Good luck to the C-team in their final game!
