“Five Nights at Freddy’s” (FNAF) fans came running, as an awaited FNAF movie finally came out on Oct. 27. Step director Emma Tammi had a budget of $20 million to interpret a monumental collection game lore for fans who are deep in its real story. Thousands of fans, including me, spent time analyzing and looking for new secrets in this teen like horror movie as YouTubers post their videos revealing the secrets. Around I was a bit dissatisfied with the scare factor of the film and annoyed by the bewitchment from family and friendship.
FNAF has a huge fanbase with people like me trying to figure out the story of this massive horror game world. Actor Josh Hutcherson, a famous actor known for his role in the “Hunger Games,” played the main character, Mike Schmidt, a trauma survivor of his brother’s kidnapping. This was revealed in a flashback of Mike’s story, where he blames himself for not looking after his brother, as his mom requested. Mike also has a younger sister who he lives with and takes care of. He struggles to find jobs as things keep going wrong, getting him repeatedly fired. But fortunately, there is one job that is still open for him a nightguard shift at an abandoned pizza parlor: Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza Parlor.
The reason this addition to the FNAF world worked so well is because the games and hidden Easter eggs and references themselves reward the individual with bits and pieces of the story, but to be able to create the whole timeline and understand what is happening. With previous knowledge of the FNAF timeline, the movie provides extra details that only I could notice from knowing the lore. This is rewarding as it revealed new factors and details in the story that just look like nothing.
As an FNAF fan I was excited to watch the movie. Although critics of the FNAF movie gave it a solid 31 percent on the tomato meter I feel like that is low and it is because they did not understand most of the movie. I agree with the fan’s score, as it stands around 87 percent on audience enjoyment which is more around how I would have rated the movie. The movie had a familiar storyline but added bits and pieces from other games and books creating this collage of a movie. The “Five Nights at Freddy’s” games thank YouTubers and streamers that follow their storyline as the franchise would not be as popular as it is without fans. When the first teaser trailer dropped for the movie, it was revealed that the famous YouTuber CoryxKenshin plays a taxi driver, hinting that there may be other popular creators within the movie, so people like me would have even more of a reason to go.
Overall, this movie was satisfactory, and it had exceeded most of expectations for it. The only issue I had with it is that it feels more family friendly, but the scare factor was better than most say in reviews, so if you understand the lore, then I unquestionably would recommend watching it in theater or steaming it on Peacock too.
