On Oct. 11 there was a race at Marymoor Park between the schools of Skyline, Issaquah, Eastlake, Newport, and Redmond. Issaquah and Skyline both tied with 43 points, in second was Eastlake with 57 points, in third was Newport with 94, and in last place, Redmond with 128 points. First place among the runners was Skyline’s Reidar Aageson with a time of 16:30.33. Second place was Issaquah’s Alexander Yahn with a time of 16:30.42. Third was Issaquah’s Brennen Rickey with a time of 16:31.08.
Issaquah was feeling good about the race as evidenced by junior Henry Tate saying, “I think we’re going to sweep one through five because all these other teams are dummy easy.” While we did not get first through fifth, we did get second and third, as well as seventh and tenth, which is more in the top ten than any other single team at the race. Issaquah had 12 people who scored and 13 people in the race out of 52 total people between all the teams. Of those 52, 43 contestants scored while 9 did not.
There were also two Junior Varsity races which were both won by Issaquah by a large margin with six people in the top ten for both, more than all the other schools combined. Freshman Arya Bhat who is on the JV 1 squad says, “That was definitely the most I pushed myself.” He came in 36th with a time of 19:03.51. Tate also says, “Mason Underwood will get first place for JV”. Mason Underwood, a junior at Issaquah got 22nd place with a time of 18:41.
While we won the track meet, this was only a warmup because the finals for the season and qualifying race will be held on the same track. This was a chance for everybody to try the track and see what they can do to be better and have a faster time. There is still one meet left in the season so you should try and catch it on Wednesday, Oct 18, at 2:30 PM, at Marymoor Park.
