On Oct. 12, the Issaquah Eagles JV Soccer Team played the Eastlake Wolves for the sixth game of the season. The Wolves started off strong with a quick goal made by freshman midfielder Mile’na Dancsha’zy No. 13. She received the pass from striker Rylan Miller No. 7 moments before she took it to the net, while narrowly missing Issaquah’s sophomore goalie, Laila Motiwalla No. 22. Undiscouraged and enthusiastic, the Eagles made a strong comeback with the first Eagle goal scored by Issy freshman Morgan Pelly No. 22. With a counter goal by Eastlake’s Miller right before halftime, it was not looking good for the Eagles. However, it seemed that Issy’s well earned pep talk turned things around for the team, with three back to back goals scored by respectively, junior midfielder Eleri Parry No. 3, sophomore midfielder Natalie Burch No. 10, and junior forward Carmen Loney No. 15. Another key player of the game was forward freshman Maddie Van Zandt No. 11, who was an energetic force the entire game, and supported both Pelly and Parry’s goals. Finally, and officiating herself as a force to be reckoned with, Miller took the ball to the net with five minutes left on the clock. This brought the total score of the game to 4-3 Issaquah.
Through the harrowing heights of the game, Coach Charles Glenn remained unfazed in his team. The whole season, the Eagles “have been playing absolutely smashing. I’m very proud of the team and how far we’ve come.” Loney states that “we have been putting in the work, trying our best, and earning these wins.” Burch agrees, adding that, “this season has definitely been my most focused. I am excited to see what plays out next match, as long as our team continues to try our best, I think we can continue our winning streak.”
The game on Thursday was not just any game; the event benefited the National Multiple Sclerosis (MS) Society in honor of current University of Washington soccer player Claudia Longo. “Kicking MS with Claudia” raised over $5,400 to aid those suffering from MS, a potentially disabling disease of the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system). The team wore orange socks during the match to show their homage to past Issaquah player Longo.
Their six-game long winning streak is sure to continue due to the profitable work of the JV team, great job Eagles!
