Issaquah Girls SWIVE swam against Lake Washington for the first time on Thursday, Oct. 12. Coach Laura Halter says, “We have never swum with Lake Washington before. It is fun that we finally get to go against the other purple team.” Before this meet, SWIVE was 2-2 with wins and losses. Issaquah ended up with 92 points while Lake Washington got 94.
The meet started off with diving in which Issaquah scored 475.8 points. Junior Trudy Inagawa scored 207 points out of the final score! She received a 6.0 on her dives. Lake Washington had a close score of 418 but their highest scoring diver only received 160 points. The first event started, which was a 200-medley relay. In the first two heats, IHS finished first. In the last heat it was a very close match between lanes three and four, Lake Washington ended up finishing the lap four seconds before IHS. The 200 free medleys were split evenly between those who had the least time from each school. Lake Washington won the 200 freestyle and 50-yard freestyle, though the 50-yard freestyle was a very close race between lanes two and three. During the 200 Individual Medley, Lake Washington won in lane four as Issaquah followed. During Breaststroke and Backstroke Issaquah began to speed up and have a comeback. When it was the 400-yard freestyle, Lake Washington had a false start but the other lanes from Lake Washington completed the lap first.
Though Issaquah lost, the players had a lot of fun and some even beat personal records in the meet. Freshman Drishya Ayalasomayajula says, “Today I just got down from a minute to 45 seconds in my 50 free.” Freshman Emily Dandeneau has a goal to get her 50 free from 34 seconds to 30 this year.
SWIVE still has Kingco, Districts, and State left in this season! The swimmers are also focusing on personal goals, and sophomore Lucy Shepard says that one major personal goal is that she would like to be in the travel meet to California. Good Luck Girls Swim and Dive for the rest of your season!
