Eagles stayed in the nest last Wednesday, Oct 4th, to compete against common rival Woodinville. Spectators got to enjoy the metal stands at the middle school while watching their favorite team of purple and gold compete. With a picturesque view of the mountains in the background, and a few paragliders or two photobombing, the excitement of the game never dropped. What to enjoy? Athletic talent and landscape beauty.
Starting late in the afternoon, with cross-country kids hustling in and out to grab their bags and provide cheers of support for a fellow athlete, the players settled on the field ready to play. As the sun set, Eagles took the win against Woodinville with a score of 3-1.
Having previously played and tied against Woodinville, freshman Anna Roberts said the team was “hyping each other up,” saying it was “important that we win, we are now tied for first in the rankings.”
In constant support is Coach Demarre, who tells the team, “We work hard together. Leave any beef off the field. We are all sisters.”
Team bonding, equally important to the team’s athletic ability, only got stronger as the season progressed. Playing a school sport is something of a wonder, not only do you play your sport together, but you are with each other every day, through the exciting moments to the ones you feel the most down. Teammates are a special type of family. Getting connected is key to having a successful time on the field. The girls highlighted that well as they dribbled, passed, and scored last Wednesday
Freshman Etta Blumenthal confirms the girls were ready for the win, saying “we came out tough and hard.” In terms of connecting with teammates, Blumenthal shares “When we first played [Woodinville] it was our first game as a team so we didn’t know who clicked with who, and that we really found our rhythm and we are all a team, no hatred, no ‘toxicness,’ we all get along, we all have the same goal to win.”
Blumenthal says the team is a “good group of girls, it’s like a second family,” and Roberts popped in with “a found family.”
After the win, the team went out to dinner to celebrate, and Roberts confirmed that since the win, in the last week, the team has gotten even closer. Together the Frosh girls’ soccer team continues the tradition of starting the game off with a cheer where all the girls place their pinkies in the middle, a tradition the other girls teams taught them at tryouts.
Don’t get out of your seats yet, there’s more. The game was followed by another dub last Friday against the talented Mt. Si, Issy grabbing the gold with a score of 4-2. Rollercoaster of winnings continued on Tuesday of this week, where Issaquah won against uber rival Skyline. The score: 3-2.
Staying true to the genre of “fall sport,” the girls have a few more games until their finale on Oct 30th.
