Instagram Likes Disappear across the World

Nov. 9 Instagram CEO Adam Mosseri announced that Instagram likes will soon start to disappear starting from the platform for US users starting as soon as next week. Likes to have already disappeared from countries such as Australia, Brazil, Canada, Ireland, Italy, Japan, and New Zealand. Influencers already noticed that they are receiving fewer likes before the test even started. Influencers are fighting for attention as Instagram tests removing likes from its platform: ‘There’s no audience applause at the end of a performance is how influencers describe it. Instagram usage has already gone down in countries. Instagram says it is “because we want your followers to focus on the photos and videos you share, not how many likes they get.” In other words: when likes are public, people care too much about them. If a post does not get enough likes, people delete them to make it seem like all their photos are hits. Also, Instagram is doing this is to identify and regulate the use of bots and reduce spam, but many innocent users have been temporarily flagged for engaging in penalized acts by Instagram. This will not be forever. This is temporary until Instagram gets user feedback, mostly from influencers, on what the people want for the app.
