Chicken Noodle Soup was an old hit made back in 2006 by Webstar and Young B. Both Becky G and J-hope enjoyed that song, so they made a remake to bond over it. The song itself incorporated elements of diversity as a Korean and Latin America artists finally come together to make music together. With their powerful lyrics in Spanish, Korean, and English, “Chicken Noodle Soup” is a song everyone should listen to because of its strong themes of diversity and also because it brings back old school rap in a beautifully written song.
Becky G was born in the U.S. and grew up in a Hispanic family. In “Chicken Noodle Soup,” Becky G and J-hope incorporated some of their own lyrics. In Becky G’s verse, she raps, “Latinoamericana soy de aqui” which directly translates to “Latin American I am from here,” expressing the variety of culture and race in America. Later in that verse in Spanish she says, “Where I was born, you don’t think a woman would stand out”//“The people that criticize they simply give me pity.” She brings elements of diversity, feminism, and independence in her one solo verse rapping in the language of her culture.
J-hope from BTS is the main dancer and a rapper. He has expressed his love for dance throughout his years as a member of BTS. He brings his concept of passion in Chicken Noodle Soup by saying, “My height is measured in my dance,” and he expresses how much his dance means to him rapping, “Betting on life, dance is my cash.”
“Chicken Noodle Soup” is an excellent song that incorporates many elements that are unseen by today’s pop and rap industry. Becky G brought in diversity and that theme is proven as in the music video, there is a variety of races present, Asian to African American to Latino. Adding on to the Latino culture, Becky G also gave her unique perspective as a Latin American woman in the United States, showing the hidden conflict of racial prejudice that still goes on. On the other hand, J-hope brings his passion and hard for his dancing conveying his individuality. All in all, “Chicken Noodle Soup” is a song that everyone whether you enjoy rap or pop music should listen to.
