“The 100” Season Six: The Start to a Disappointing Conclusion
October 10, 2019
Warning: The following article contains spoilers from seasons one through five of “The 100.” The CW series “The 100” is a dystopian sci-fi series that takes place ninety-seven years after a nuclear apocalypse, where one-hundred and one juvenile offenders are sent down to test the survivability of the ground, after being on a space station, for the past three generations. They quickly discover they are not anywhere near alone, and that they know nothing about the place their ancestors once called home. During the conclusion of season five, the survivors of Praimfaya(the deadly radiation wave from season four) and the prisoners from Eligius IV(spaceship) are forced to go into cryosleep after a rogue prisoner nukes the last survivable land on earth. They are woken up after one-hundred and ten years of cryosleep and arrive at a moon called Sanctum. Season six of “The 100” was overall disappointing and did not have the same excitement or mystery that was in season one. Though this season was still entertaining, it was nothing compared to previous seasons because of a boring plot and a lack of falling action to conclude the series.
After the decimation of the Earth in season four, the show has lacked the interesting culture and traditions of the Grounders. Though they did attempt to introduce the people of Sanctum and their divine leaders in season 6, they did not have the complexity nor the relationships that the Grounders had. The people of Sanctum were blindly loyal and lacked depth.
Even though previous seasons of the show are far superior to the two newest additions, the primary reason many watched after season four was to see what happened to the characters after the destruction of earth, especially the main four being Bellamy, Clarke, Raven, and Octavia. However, those who did tune in for that specific reason were thoroughly disappointed. The second to last season of a show that has been airing for the past five years should’ve began on its path towards an ending for the cast. However, this was not the route Rotenberg took at all. Instead, he introduced an entirely new cast and didn’t emphasize any important characters from previous seasons other than Bellamy and Clarke.
In the end, “The 100” was great while it lasted. However, the show is coming to an end and the past couple of seasons have been disappointing. Because it is free on the CW app, I do recommend watching the newest season of “The 100” if you are really looking for a conclusion to the once amazing saga.
