Vince Staples' "FM!" Is Great as a Whole

Vince Staples, rap artist, released his new album “FM!” on November 1st. This album progresses from decent quality to a great album. Be aware that this album contains vulgar language and will not be appealing for those who are more sensitive to that style of music.

It starts off with a very high paced rhythm and slows down to be more focused on certain sounds. The interlude songs are key points that clearly show how the album is changing its overall style of rap that is present throughout the album. Vince Staples’ musical style is very unique and is considered to be raw, which is portrayed with his album quite clearly.

“Feels Like Summer,” the first song in the album, is a cluster of noises and is all over the place. It comes across as an aggressive song and is almost overwhelming for a start to the album. In comparison to the song “Relay,” “Feels Like Summer” is better because “Relay” is to repetitive and gets boring quickly.

“New earlsweatshirt – Interlude” is the first major change in the style of music in the album. However, the songs before it have portions with a slower tempos. These portions of change are done well and makes the songs way better than if they were to just be one style.

The song “FUN!” is the best song in the album. It is not repetitive like most of the songs in the album and it had the right balance of pace for this album. It has a balance between the sprint start to the casual end, which makes it the best.

The final song “Tweakin’” ends the album with a good finish that really shows how the songs changed in pace. Overall I thought this album was great as a whole, but if played for just one song, it may not meet expectations. The album played out in order is what makes it so good.
