“Hellfest”: Bloody and Gory, but Not All Glory
October 15, 2018
During the month of October, almost everyone gets into the Halloween festivities, which include horror movies. A certain movie has been creating a lot of feedback, bad and good: “Hellfest.” The movie itself is pretty bloody and gory. So if you hate blood, I would not recommend it. I’m not a fan of blood, so the movie took me by surprise, in a really nice way. The movie wastes no time in getting into the thrills and chills. With the main character whistling the popular tune, “Pop Goes the Weasel,” it really gives you a sense of dread. The killer never really reaches the end of the song (not really sure why), but it gives you an “off” vibe.
With a suspenseful lead, the movie can be a letdown. There are a few cheesy jump scares that you see coming, but they still got me. It seems like every other bad slasher movie, with classic jocks and sexual comments that are made throughout the film, but really good deaths and kills. With 44 percent on Rotten Tomatoes, I do not see it reaching high ratings. I personally thought the movie had a nice ending that left you waiting for more, when you never get to see the killers face because he does not get caught and it turns out he even has a child. Senior Valentina Villegas says, “It’s the typical cliché horror movie. But I would watch it again just for the blood. I like how the movie carried out the kills. [But it] Lacked in a sense of acting.” But if all you are looking for is a bloody mess of a thriller, then “Hellfest” is a good time.
